“The Athens Food Policy Network provides a structure for all community wide stakeholders in Athens County to work together to prioritize solutions that will work toward making sure every person has access to nutritious, locally produced food. A networked food-systems approach will be used to support sustainability, pathways out of poverty, equity and resilience.”

The First Convening of the Network…

Athens Food Policy Network- On May 6th a core group of local food system stakeholders convened as the Athens Food Policy Network.

Affinity Groups- As a result of this event a variety of people from different sectors of the community evolved in three groups based on common interests (Green Squares).

Food System Network Leadership Training- These groups will receive a basic network training with a focus on food systems leadership.

Local Pilot Projects- These affinity groups will network to find other individuals, especially those who may not traditionally be involved, with the purpose of developing pilot projects. These pilot projects are intended to explore truly community-based solutions, and create change in the areas they have identified.
