High Style, Low Impact: Achieving Premium Florals the Responsible Way
Foam and plastic-free arch swag
As I finished writing this blog post, I realized that this content may be a bit “too much” for any couple searching for a wedding florist, regardless of how environmentally conscious they are. I am betting my readers will be other floral designers. But I have already written the blog, so here it goes…
My brand is founded on my vision: to fill a significant gap in the floristry industry, proving that stunning, unique floral designs can and should coexist with genuine environmental responsibility. My design choices clearly distance my brand from the wasteful practices of mainstream wedding and event floristry, while simultaneously being light years away from the rustic, "burlap and mason jar" aesthetic many flower farms offer for wedding and event flowers in their pursuit of sustainability.
My goal is to provide a modern, sophisticated alternative, offering exquisite arrangements through the integration of responsible sourcing and innovative low or no-plastic design techniques. I empower couples who book with me to make choices that are right for them without ever compromising on elegance or their commitment to the environment.
Eco-Conscious Studio Practices
My commitment to sustainability is reinforced by strict studio practices that eliminate harmful materials:
Foam-Free Mechanics: I have never used traditional floral foam, which is a non-biodegradable plastic containing toxic chemicals. Instead, I use sustainable alternatives to support my work such as:
Agrawool & natural materials like wet moss and branches to provide hydration and structure.
Chicken wire, reusable grids, and galvanized steel wire for structural support.
Pin frogs (kenzan) for precise placement in vessels.
Waste Management
Any botanical scraps and green waste are composted, turning potential landfill debris into nutrient-rich soil. I also have a system for donating or repurposing wedding and event flowers to local non-profits or nursing homes, where possible.
Eliminating Single-Use Plastics: for my bouquet subscriptions, I minimize plastic waste by using compostable or recyclable packaging materials, such as kraft paper wraps and jute or natural fiber ribbons, rather than plastic sleeves or synthetic ribbons. For my wedding customers, I use reusable rental vases and containers. The plastics I do use (like floral tubes), I also collect and use over and over until they fall apart.
Sustainable Sourcing Strategies
Conscious Selection and Education
I prioritize locally-grown, seasonal flowers whenever possible. For the unique, bespoke elements that require global sourcing, I educate clients about seasonal availability and sustainable options, ensuring transparency in the process and managing expectations. However, when it is the right

Partnering with Certified Farms
I work with growers who have recognized third-party certifications. These certifications ensure that the flowers are grown in an the most environmentally and socially responsible manner possible, which includes:
Protecting ecosystems and wildlife habitats.
Conserving water and soil.
Promoting safe, decent working conditions and fair wages for farm workers.
Buying Direct and Optimizing Logistics
Sourcing directly from my farm, local farms, and directly from importers reduces the number of intermediaries in the supply chain, which minimizes handling and shortens the journey from grower to studio.
